In 1842, the Council and local bourgeoisie met to discuss plans for a modern theatre for the city. The building was completed in 1844 following the “Italian Model” that included an elliptical floor attributed to the Architect Faustino Domingez. As one of the oldest italian style theatres in Galicia, it is one of the best examples of nineteenth century urban development.
