The city was historically served by 3 water springs of Oro, Riomuiños and from the spring of Saint Domingo, known in medieval times as the "fountain of Reimiro". From the sixteenth century, this spring became popularly known as "Saint Domingo" due to its close proximity to the mendicant convent of the same name. The fountain complex underwent renovation and works throughout the centuries, with the last most important works carried out in 1718, by the town council which added a horses’ drinking trough and a water tank for the washing of laundry.
